American Sculptor
About Derek Uhlman
Derek Uhlman is an American born artist who's primary material of choice is stone though he experiments and works with a wide array of varying materials and methods. Much of his work is somewhat minimal in design with qualities of being ancient though seemingly created by an advanced culture with precise cuts and geometric balance/imbalance. Mystery and considerations of great spans of time and the rise and fall of civilizations are aesthetic goals to be expressed in these works. In some works religious symbols, abstracted and intermixed, are introduced to portray the whole of mankind throughout time play a role in the statement.
In later works, bold colors and otherworldly forms develop in a dramatic turn from earlier works as in the "Critter Series".
