BIOGRAPHY

​

Derek Uhlman was born in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1956.  His family moved to Connecticut in 1961.  He created jewelry in the early 1970's and made his first sculptures in 1978.  He worked as an assistant with the sculptors Ivan Biro and Reuben Nakian.  He received his first major commission from General Foods Corporation in 1983 for the 37,000 lb. marble sculpture "Stone Flowers" .  He now works in New Canaan, CT.
